The Committee acknowledged that the bill on Ratification of the Council of Europe Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings (Reg. No. 0176) complied with the EU legislation. The purposes of this Convention are to prevent and combat trafficking in human beings, while guaranteeing gender equality; to protect the human rights of the victims of trafficking, design a comprehensive framework for the protection and assistance of victims and witnesses, while guaranteeing gender equality, as well as to ensure effective investigation and prosecution; to promote international cooperation on action against trafficking in human beings.

 

The Committee members stated that ratification of the Convention would allow Ukraine to implement modern international legal standards against trafficking in human beings, which should help to overcome the status of a transit country supplying ‘human slaves´ across its borders.  

 

The Committee also acknowledged that the bill on amendments to several legislative acts of Ukraine regarding responsibility of the carriers performing international passenger operations (Reg. No. 7010) complied with the EU legislation and would facilitate implementation of the Council of Europe Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings.
